Style Objectified: Sarah Reynolds of Kmart Fashion

Today we are launching our Style Objectified series where we’ll be featuring the vibrant, exciting individuals (designers, bloggers, editors and others) whom we are lucky enough to meet in the fashion industry to discuss what motivates and inspires them.

To kick things off, we chatted with Sarah Reynolds, the face behind the newly launched @KmartFashion on Twitter.  NYFW is wrapping up in the Big Apple and Kmart Fashion has invited a select number of fashion influencers to participate in their #KmartConcierge to service them with a number of “survival items” to get through the week.

1.    Who is your personal style inspiration?

My style is inspired by a fusion of things – art, movies, different eras, etc., not really one person in particular. If I had to pinpoint one thing, it would definitely be the Victorian era – the lace, cuffs, floor length gowns, stockings, and detailed buttons; everything was so classy and elegant.

2.       Who is your favorite designer?

Ralph Lauren, Lanvin, Zac Posen, & Oscar de la Renta

3.       What is your style philosophy?

Just because it’s on trend doesn’t mean it’s right for you.  Dress for your body type & dress in a style that is appropriate for you.

4.       What trend are you excited about, what trend would you like to come back and what trend do you wish would go away?

I’m so happy to see that color blocking has become such a huge trend, it’s one of those go-to trends that everyone can pull off as long as the clothing fits well and the colors go nicely together. I’m also a HUGE fan of menswear – button downs, tailored blazers, suit trousers, & wingtip shoes; I think there is something very powerful about a woman who can pull off menswear.

I feel like there are very few trends that aren’t in-fashion at the moment, but I’d really like to see high-waisted, flared pants stay in the mix for a long time (they are very flattering on tall women).

Currently, I’m not a fan of chunky-heeled, lace up boots (Litas). They are not flattering on anyone, regardless of how skinny you are.

5.       What was your biggest fashion faux pas?

I think it’s always frowned upon when someone of note goes to a fashion event and doesn’t know who designed the clothing they wore. It’s a guaranteed question.

6.       What are you wearing right now?

  •  Ralph Lauren silk blouse
  • Zara high-waisted pants
  • Proenza Schouler PS1 bag
  • Steven strappy heels

7.       Who would win in a Style Off between Leighton Meester vs. Blake Lively?

Definitely Blake Lively – her style is very classy & inline with my style. I fell in love with the grey Lanvin gown with the brown wait belt she wore to the 2010 Spike TV Awards. Definitely something I would wear.
